Snow Removal

During a snow event, snow removal crews will be working throughout the day once snowfall begins and will continue until the roadways and sidewalks are cleared of snow.   Please be patient as the crews from the City of Gaithersburg and PGC Landscape work to clear snow.

During and after a snowfall, it is important that everyone work together to make sure that the streets and sidewalks are cleared and don’t become icy.  Please remember:

Roadways Maintained by the City of Gaithersburg

The City of Gaithersburg maintains all roadways in Quince Orchard Park.  The City is responsible for clearing the snow and ice from these streets.  Use the following links to check on their progress and/or to report problems:

  1. Residents are asked to direct all snow-related correspondence only to snow@gaithersburgmd.gov. This site will be monitored during significant storms and staff will triage the issues and respond accordingly. In true emergencies such as downed wires or trees blocking your doorway, call 911.
  1. Check the City’s website for updates: gaithersburgmd.gov.  They also post on Facebook, Twitter (you’ll find us @GburgMD) and Nextdoor.
  1. Register for Alert Gaithersburg to get emergency notifications delivered simultaneously to devices you identify. Sign up at gaithersburgmd.gov/alerts. Want to receive regular City of Gaithersburg news? Subscribe to inGaithersburg, our weekly e-mail newsletter, at https://gaithersburgmd.gov/government/enewsletters.
  1. Ticketing of cars parked illegally on snow emergency routes will be enforced. Whenever possible we announce that a snow emergency will be put in place in advance of its effective time, giving residents the opportunity to move their vehicles. Those parked on routes once the snow emergency takes effect will be subject to ticketing and towing. Warnings will not be issued.
  1. Find out which jurisdiction is responsible for maintaining which road at this Maryland Department of Transportation website.
  1. There is a prescribed order of snow plowing, which is referenced on the website. Please review to understand why certain roads take priority over others.
  1. Do NOT shovel snow back into roadways or parking lots. We understand it is sometimes difficult to find places to put all that snow but putting it back into the roadway slows down our snow removal efforts and often creates safety hazards. It is one of the biggest challenges we face during heavy snows.
  1. Please comply with City laws about removing snow from sidewalks and bus stops. It is imperative that pedestrians, including school children, have a safe place to walk.
  1. It is best to hold recycling and bulk items on days when severe weather is anticipated. If a determination is made to suspend recycling and bulk pick-up, notification will appear on the City’s website and on our Recycle Coach program, which is available on our website and also as a free app available from the App Store and Google Play. Learn more about the Recycle Coach here.

Roadways Maintained by the Community

Quince Orchard Park Community Association maintains the alleys behind your single family home or townhome and the horseshoe shaped alleys in the 200-block and 300-block of Winter Walk Drive.  The Association is responsible for clearing the snow and ice from these streets.  Please use the following links to report a problem with snow removal.

Quince Orchard Park Condominium 1 & 2 maintain the parking areas used by your Condominium (usually behind your building).

    • Fill out an online form to report an area where snow removal was missed or more work is needed (this is the fastest way to report a problem).
    • Contact us by e-mail to report a problem or concern.
    • Call us at 301-948-6666 to report a problem or concern.

Because we are coordinating snow removal efforts, we may not be able to respond immediately; however, your concern will be reviewed and forwarded on to the snow removal crews.

Sidewalks Maintained by the City, Community or Each Resident

In general, if you do not live in a Condominium and the sidewalk is adjacent to your property, then you are responsible for shoveling it even if the sidewalk does not belong to you.

Quince Orchard Park Condominiums 1 & 2 are responsible for shoveling all sidewalks on Condominium property, including those leading to your front door.

The Community is responsible for shoveling sidewalks that run adjacent to roadways and parking lots that are not directly in front of or next to homes.  The Association also is responsible for clearing out handicap parking spaces, fire hydrants, storm drains and around cluster mailboxes.  The Community is not responsible for shoveling walking trails or recreational paths if they aren’t adjacent to a roadway or parking lot.
