Household Trash

Household trash is collected every Monday and Thursday.  Your trash should be placed in covered trash cans or tightly closed, thick trash bags at the end of your driveway.  Trash should be placed out for pick-up no earlier than sunset of the evening before collection and trash cans should be stored out of sight from the street or common areas at all other times.

Household trash includes anything that is not collected by City Recycling, scrap metal, bulk waste or hazardous materials.  Questions concerning household trash collection can be directed to  New Generation Trash Service or 301-312-3119 or TMGA via the Owner Portal via the link on the menu at the top of this page.

Recycling

Recycling is collected every Friday.  It should be packaged as noted below, then placed at the curb in front of your home by no earlier than sunset of the evening before collection.  If you live on an alley, your recycling should be placed at the entrance to the alley.

Commingled Materials -Commingled recycling includes cans, bottles, plastic containers and other mixed materials.  They should be placed in a green recycling bin (available for free from the City of Gaithersburg.

Newspapers, Magazines, Cardboard Boxes and Paper –  Paper recycling should be placed in paper bags (not plastic) or in a green recycling toter that can be obtained from the City of Gaithersburg.

Yard Waste – Yard waste includes grass clippings, leaves, tree branches, trimmings from shrubs and other garden waste.  Tree branches should be bundled with string (each bundle should be no more than 4′ in length and 12″ in diameter).  All other debris should be placed in paper bags (not plastic) or in plastic containers clearly marked as containing yard waste.

Bulk Trash

The City of Gaithersburg collects bulk trash on an “as requested” basis; however, you must contact the City of Gaithersburg in advance to arrange for collection. Find more information on bulk trash pick-up at City of Gaithersburg website. You can contact the City in any of the following ways:

Holiday Trash and Recycling Schedule

The recycling collection schedule will change depending on when the holiday falls during the week.  This year’s holiday recycling schedule can be found here.

The household trash collection schedule will not change unless the trash pick-up day falls on: Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day or Thanksgiving Day.  For these holidays, trash will not be collected if the holiday falls on trash day.  Please put your trash out on the next regularly scheduled collection day.
